BDU, Periyar varsities get new VCs
Bharathidasan University and Periyar University have finally got vice-chancellors with professors’ P Manisankar and P Kolandaivel being appointed respectively for a three-year tenure. Governor Banwarilal Purohit will hand over the appointment letters to them on Sunday.

Professor Manisankar is from Department of Industrial Chemistry at Alagappa University and professor P Kolandaivel is from the Department of Physics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.
Apart from P Manisankar, the vice-chancellor search committee of BDU had also narrowed down on S Ponnusamy, retired professor of Mathematics, IIT Madras and M Thenmozhi, Professor of Management, IIT Madras. Prof. Manishankar and nine other candidates were identified from 246 aspirants.
The selection for the VC of Periyar University was mirred in controversies. In fact, in December last year, the former registrar and one of the contenders for the post of the VC, K Angamuthu had allegedly committed suicide at his residence. His name was shortlisted among the top 10 candidates.
