The incident happened on October 23 when 15 fishermen, including eight from Kanniyakumari and seven from Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts, who were working for a private company in Dubai were detained by the Iran Navy on October 24 on charges of entering their territorial waters.
On Monday, officials at Indian Embassy in Iran had informed that the bail amount was paid by the sponsor back at Dubai and so they would likely be transported to Dubai. However, their family and fishermen representatives back at Kanniyakumari had demanded the Indian government to bring them back to India.
Justin Antony, Founding President, International Fishermen Development Trust, said that the arrested 15 fishermen did not wish to go back to Dubai and so the government should take steps to bring them back to India.
