OPS for legal route to get Cauvery water

Speaking to reporters at the airport here, Paneerselvam noted that the neighbouring Karnataka was bound to release 81 TMC (one thousand million cubic feet), which it had not done. “The water crisis in Delta districts in Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Nagapattinam had threatened the standing crop. We have been considering the option of taking legal action to get water from Karnataka. We demanded our rightful share. They (Karnataka) had refused. Therefore, we have no other avenues but to take legal recourse,” OPS observed. 

On Swamy’s remarks on Cauvery water, OPS reiterated that Cauvery water is the state’s right awarded by the Cauvery Tribunal which heard the case for 17 years. “We cannot simply forego it,” he said. He also refused to reply to Swamy’s remarks on the AIADMK Parliamentarians. The Deputy CM justified the bus fare revision as before. He reiterated that the fares were not revised for 7 years while the cost of the diesel and maintenance hit through the roof. 

“There are many difficulties in governing the Transport corporations with the operating costs going north,” he said. As regards to the ongoing crackdown of graft in Bharathiar University and its alleged links to a Minister, OPS maintained that nobody will be spared.
