He cited the Cauvery dispute as one of the issues, which showed that the state government was not going against the Centre. “After the RK Nagar bypoll outcome, the ruling party had understood that its subservient attitude to the BJP had caused resentment among the people and they are pretending to oppose the Union government,” he said.
Addressing the people in RK Nagar, during a break between the two phases of his Thanjavur tour, he said, “The AIADMK had not approached the Supreme Court seeking release of Cauvery water from Karnataka to save the withering crops in the delta districts. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had avoided such a course as it would exert pressure on the Union government and cause embarrassment to it ahead of the Assembly elections in Karnataka.”
That was why the CM merely sought an appointment with his Karnataka counterpart, Dinakaran alleged. He further asserted that he would take up the chief minister’s post only through elections after getting people’s mandate.
“I am not in the race for chief minister’s post in case of a merger with the ruling party. I only want one of the 18 MLAs, who had sacrificed for the party to be made the chief minister,” he said. Dinakaran further said he would reduce the bus fare when ‘Amma’ government is restored in the state.
