Trough over SW Bay to bring more rains to Tamil Nadu

While light to moderate rain was likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, in Chennai city the sky condition was likely to be generally cloudy.

After a prolonged dry spell, several parts of Tamil Nadu received sharp showers on Wednesday night, while the in Chennai city witnessed light rain late  last night and today morning. 

Met office sources attributed the rain to the presence of trough of low at mean sea level  over Southwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, which now lies over Southwest Bay  of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka. 

The weather was expected to remain nippy, especially in the evenings and nights and the met office has predicted rains in at least 12 districts including Chennai, Coimbatore  and Salem in the next 24 hours. 

Watrap in southern Virudhunagar district received a maximum of 11 cm of rain during  the last 24 hours ending at 0830 hrs on Thursday.

It was Ayikudi (Tirunelveli dist), K.Paramathi (Karur dist) 8 each, Chengam (Tiruvannamalai 

dist), Tiruchengode (Namakkal dist) 7 each, Dharapuram (Tiruppur dist), Periyakulam AWS 

(Theni dist), Sivagiri (Tirunelveli dist) - 6 each, Srivilliputhur (Virudhunagar dist), Tirukoilur 

(Villupuram dist), Polur (Tiruvannamalai dist), Papanasam (Tirunelveli dist), Rajapalayam

(Virudhunagar dist) 5 each, Andipatti (Theni dist), Kangeyam (Tiruppur dist), R.K.Pettai 

(Tiruvallur dist), Valparai taluk office (Coimbatore dist), Arakonam (Vellore dist), Vandavasi 

(Tiruvannamalai dist), Pallipattu (Tiruvallur dist) 4 each.
