The DVAC sleuths had moved the petition seeking custody of the suspended V-C to interrogate him on the alleged corrupt deals in recruitments at the university. Chief Judicial Magistrate Court judge Madurasekaran, who holds additional charge of the Special Court for DVAC cases in the absence of its judge John Mino, posted the hearing to Monday.

Ganapathy, who was produced in court, requested the judge to provide him with basic amenities in the jail. “I am 67 and should be considered as a senior citizen. There is no fan in the cell…I am not provided with even hot water. So, I had difficulty in eating. I should be allowed to live at least till the next hearing of this petition. These basic facilities should be arranged on humanitarian grounds,” the V-C appealed. The judge informed him that his petition will be taken up for hearing along with the custody petition on Monday. The judge also directed the Sub Inspector, who was escorting the V-C, to provide him facilities in prison in compliance with law.

The suspended V-C later told the media, “I will come out clean from conspiracy.” The DVAC sleuths, who conducted a search that extended past midnight on Thursday, seized huge bundles of files and documents from the Bharathiar University. They also have in possession recorded audio conversations of the V-C allegedly brokering a deal with a job aspirant.
