The comment came while condemning lyricist R Vairamuthu for his statement on Hindu saint Andal.

When the plea by DVK’s Namakkal district organiser, Vairavel, came up, Justice M S Ramesh directed the prosecution to get instructions from the police, and adjourned it to February 20 for further hearing. Claiming that the speech instigated violence in the state, the petitioner complained to the inspector of Thiruchengodu station seeking appropriate action against the Jeeyar, on January 28.

After the police failed to act, the petitioner wanted the court to step in and direct the jurisdictional police to file an FIR.

Meanwhile, the court directed Vadapalani inspector to register a complaint against film director Bharathiraja for allegedly speaking ill of Hindu Gods Vinayaka and Andal, if cognisable offence was made out. Hearing a petition by VG Narayanan of Pulianthope, claiming himself to be a social worker, Justice MS Ramesh gave this direction to the inspector.

Alleging that Bharathiraja had described Vinayagar as an imported god, the petitioner charged that he has been resorting to hurting the feelings of devotees to cause religious animosity among the people.
