Tiruvannamalai Collector drives battery car for differently abled
It’s not everyday that locals get to be chauffeured by the first citizen of the district. But around nine differently-abled persons had this opportunity when Tiruvannamalai collector KS Kandasamy, running true to form, drove them in a brand new battery-operated vehicle for nearly a kilometre on Monday.

The 11-seater vehicle costing Rs 7 lakh was purchased to facilitate differently-abled people traverse the nearly 1 km distance between the collector’s office and the bus stop on the Vellore highway. Officials said Tiruvannamalai was the first district to opt for such a battery-operated vehicle. It would be available on all working days between 10 am and 6 pm and would be operated every 20 minutes.
Later, Kandasamy sat on the floor outside the Collectorate building to enable differently-abled petitioners reach him easily. He said the vehicle was expected to benefit nearly 7,000 of the 58,000 differently-abled people in the district.
