VIT’s annual fest Riviera from February 14

Vellore Institute of Technology’s four-day annual cultural and sports extravaganza Riviera 2018 will see the participation of over 38,000 students, including those from 28 countries, said its chancellor G Viswanathan.

Interacting with reporters here, he said the four-day carnival with the theme ‘Theatre of Dreams’ will be inaugurated by ace cricketer Gautam Gambhir on February 14. Renowned singers will be participating, while a new programme ‘infusion’ will showcase global talent from 14 nations, he noted. A total of 128 events are lined up for the carnival. Baahubali star Rana Daggubatti will be the chief guest at the valedictory function on February 18, Viswanathan added.

A cyclothon, a pre-Riviera event, was held earlier. For those with interest in athletics and track field, organisers said they have planned 11 informal and 6 formal events, in which more than 750 individuals are expected to participate. Viswanathan, who said the annual event has gone from strength to strength, also released a souvenir T shirt on the occasion.

Earlier in the week, Forum for Empowering People through Special Innovations (FEPSI), a VIT University initiative, created the figure of India’s Agni missile in a bid to enter the Limca Book of Records. Nearly 1,439 students participated in it, which was organised as a tribute to former President APJ Abdul Kalam. Kalam is popularly called the Missile Man of India for his role in the developing the missile technology. VIT University officials awaits the results from Limca officials.
