TPDK seeks divorce for goat, dog wedded on Valentine Day last year

A day after Hindu outfits performed marriage between dogs and goats to condemn Valentine’s Day celebrations, members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) sought divorce by bringing a dog and goat to the court in Coimbatore on Thursday.

A group of TPDK members led by its general secretary G Ramakrishnan came to the court with a well groomed dog and a goat. Both the animals had garlands and wore yellow threads as ‘thali’ (mangalsutra). Interestingly in a hand written petition seeking divorce as their ‘life partner’ had left them in lurch a day after marriage, the TPDK members took the foot prints of the goat and dog. The petitions were then handed over to the TPDK’s party advocate to be filed in a family court.

Speaking to reporters, Ramakrishnan said that BJP and other Hindu outfits conducted marriages between donkeys, dogs and goats to oppose Valentine’s Day celebrations. “This is an unnatural act and also amounts to cruelty to animals. A Hindu outfit solemnized a marriage between a goat and a dog by naming them as Alamelu and Anjali last year. Soon after marriage, they were left in the lurch,” said Ramakrishnan. “So we petitioned the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner seeking to re-unite the ‘estranged partners. There was no action. Hence, a decision has been taken to move the family court seeking divorce for the dog and goat,” said Ramakrishnan.
