This happened hours after the Leader of Opposition, MK Stalin, announced a similar meet on February 23 on the same issue. Palaniswami’s announcement followed a high-level meeting that he had with legal experts, Cauvery Technical Committee (CTC) chairman R Subramanian, and top PWD officials, claimed sources. In a release, the Chief Minister reiterated that the government would try to get the state’s share of Cauvery with the assistance from legal experts.

“The state will immediately take steps on the issue after consulting and getting the views of leaders of all parties in the meeting,” said Palaniswami. The participating parties are likely to urge the Centre to constitute Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and retrieve the 14.75 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) of water the state lost out on in the recent verdict.

Following this, Stalin cancelled the meeting that he had called for and welcomed CM’s decision. “DMK will participate in the meet and offer suggestions to the government on this matter,” he said.
