Currently, Ganapathy is spending time in the Coimbatore Central Prison reading spiritual books. “He spends time reading books like Thiruvasagam and Thirupavai, both profound works of Tamil literature. He mostly restricts himself to his cell,” said a prison official.

Ganapathy continues to be in a normal cell and hasn’t been given ‘A’ class facilities so far in the prison as requested earlier. While special court judge for Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) John Mino referred to the Collector the matter regarding granting ‘A’ class facilities to the suspended Vice Chancellor, the prison officials said they haven’t received any communiqué from the Collector in this regard.

Meanwhile, the police, who couldn’t glean any information from the tight-lipped suspended Vice Chancellor, had decided to grill some middlemen who brokered job recruitments in the Bharathiar University. Ganapathy was caught in a DVAC trap when he took a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in cash and Rs 29 lakh as cheque leaves from a job aspirant at his residence. A professor was also arrested and a case registered against the director of Distance Education in the Bharathiar University for brokering the corrupt deals.
