Gold biscuits weighing about 19 kg, smuggled from Sri Lanka was seized in the district today and two persons arrested in this connection.
The gold biscuits worth Rs 4.7 crore, meant to be smuggled to Thondi in Ramanathapuram district were confiscated near Avudayar temple here.
Acting on a tip off, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence carried out vehicle checks and intercepted two persons who came on a two-wheeler with a diesel can.
During the search, they found the gold hidden inside the can.
The duo were held on charges of smuggling gold, DRI officials said adding further investigation is on.
