In the audio clip, a professor, who is also the syndicate member of the Bharathiar University, is heard demanding gold coins, silver tumblers and Parker pens as bribe for himself and external examiners for conducting a viva voce for a scholar in the Department of Education.

In the nearly four-minute audio clip, the professor orders the scholar to arrange two gold coins for himself, besides gold coins, silver tumblers and Parker pens for the visiting faculty. He also advises the student to pack all the gifts in a similar kind of wrapper. With the clip going viral, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths said an inquiry will be held to check the veracity of the audio and initiate appropriate action, if it’s found to be true.

G Singaravelu, a syndicate member and Head, Department of Education, who was rumoured to be the person in the audio clip, denied it as a baseless allegation. “It wasn’t me. I had already informed the university administration and I am planning to file a police complaint for tarnishing my name by involving me in such malicious campaigns,” he said.
