Condoling the death of PG medical student Krishna Prasad from Rameswaram who allegedly committed suicide in Chandigarh, Stalin asked the ruling AIADMK to contact the government there and make efforts to investigate the mental and physical torture given to him and allay the doubts surrounding his death. It is unfortunate that the State continues to disregard his demand to set up a monitoring committee to ensure the safety of TN students pursuing higher education in other states, Stalin said.

The LoP had made the demand in the Assembly in the aftermath of the death of two Tamil Nadu medicos at AIIMS in New Delhi. Remarking that it was agonizing to note that the Centre and State had not initiated any action despite continuous suicides of TN medicos in other states due to reasons like ragging and ethno-lingual discrimination, Stalin said the Centre and State should realize that Tamil Nadu is not ready to lose to students pursuing higher education in other states.
