5 youth held for chain snatching in Namakkal

Five youth, including four juveniles, were arrested for their alleged involvement in a series of chain snatching and waylaying incidents in Namakkal district.

During a vehicle check on Tuesday night, police intercepted three youth riding a two-wheeler on Salem Road under the Namakkal police limits. 

Subsequent interrogation revealed that the trio, E Vijay (20) of Kottai Colony in Namakkal and two other boys, aged 18 and 17, was involved in many chain snatching and way laying incidents. On February 12, the trio along with two other minor friends robbed Rs 400 in cash and a cell phone from a man. 

Shortly thereafter, the five boys snatched away the ‘thali’ chain of a 35-year-old woman, who was on a morning walk on Bazaar Street in Namakkal. A few days later, on February 25, the boys robbed cash from a man at knife-point. 

They had also a woman government staff, who was riding a two-wheeler on the national highways on February 11 in Vellore district, of her gold chain. Following their arrest, police recovered two bikes and valuables from the accused. 

The boys were produced in court and sent to remand.
