D Balraj, a head constable with the Salem North Traffic Police station, while regulating traffic at the Salem Five Road junction around 9.30 am, noticed the girl in school uniform crying at the bus stop.

He approached her and found out that the girl from Omalur was anxious as she couldn’t reach the examination centre at the Kottai Government Higher Secondary School. She was in tears as she had just 15 minutes left to enter the exam hall. The Class 12 exams commenced on March 1.

The girl feared that she may miss the exam as a bus journey would take her longer to reach the school. The bus from Omalur had arrived late at the Five Road junction, from where she needed to take another bus to her examination centre.

Balraj immediately informed his senior officers and took the girl on his bike to the centre. “I dropped her on time. She thanked me profusely for my timely help,” said the policeman.

Senior police officers appreciated Balraj for his act of benevolence, which helped the girl.
