According to sources, Ramachandran, a daily wager from Tirupuvanam in Thanjavur, had divorced his wife Asha (45), 13 years ago. Subsequently, the couple’s son Vignesh (presently aged 23) was staying with Asha. Asha became mentally ill and Vignesh was taking care of her. In this situation, Asha suddenly went missing on Feb 25.
After a frantic search for his mother in various places, Vignesh lodged a complaint with Tiruvidaimaruthur police, who registered a case. On Feb 27, Tiruvidaimaruthur police called Ramachandran (as Asha was mentioned as his wife in the complaint) and told him his wife’s body was at the Kumbakonam GH. However, Ramachandran said he had divorced her and asked the police to contact Vignesh. Police then called Vignesh, who identified the body and received it. He performed the last rites for his mother in Tirupuvanam.
In a surprise twist, Vignesh, alerted by his relatives, found Asha sitting near the Tiruppuvanam market and took her home. Following this, locals raised questions about the body that was given to Vignesh. Tiruvidaimarudur police was not available for comment.
