NABARD to fund classrooms in government schools

The Tamil Nadu government will provide classrooms and toilets to government schools and colleges under the NABARD Rural Infrastructure Developmental Funds.

The project, taken up by Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TADHDC), will be done private construction companies. Accordingly, infrastructure of about 50 government schools in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Vellore districts will be upgraded. 

In addition, a high-tech science lab will be set up at Adi Dravidar high school at Hookar in Nilgiris district. Two toilet blocks will also be constructed at GTR middle school at Aravenu in Nilgiris district. 

In Namakkal district, a residential school will be constructed. A senior official from TADHDC said that the entire construction work will be carried out as per specifications in the national building code and Tamil Nadu building practice. 

Construction of tribal welfare girls hostel will be carried out at Thuraiyur in Trichy district. Similarly, class rooms will also be upgraded in about ten schools in Trichy. 

NABARD will be release the fund on reimbursement basis except for the initial mobilisation advance @30% to north eastern and hilly states and 20% for other states. Tamil Nadu authorities will give the project completion report to NABARD.
