Usha died on the night of March 7 after a traffic inspector Kamaraj allegedly kicked the bike on which she was riding with her husband from Thanjavur.

The inspector chased the couple after they did not stop during a vehicle inspection, which was being conducted to catch motorists for helmet rule violations, at Thiruverumbur.

The incident caused a ruckus at Thiruverumbur, as onlookers gathered in large numbers soon after the incident and resorted to a flash road roko on the busy Tiruchy-Thanjavur National Highway.

Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd as the blockade lasted for over four hours. Soon after the death of Usha, the woman’s husband and relatives had claimed that she was pregnant for three months. This infuriated the public creating a riot-like situation in Thiruverumbur.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem report was submitted to the court and the police had received a copy which stated that the victim was not pregnant at the time of the incident.

Confirming this to DT Next, Superintendent of Police P Cephas Kalyan said, the report revealed that the victim had a 5-cm cyst which could not be claimed a foetus.

However, the SP said that this would not hinder the investigation process and a special investigating officer in the rank of a DSP has been posted to probe the case. The officers has been continuing with the investigation.

However, despite repeated attempts by DT Next, relatives of Usha could not be reached for their views on the post-mortem report.
