CM to distribute solatium to kin of Ockhi victims today
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will roll out the solatium disbursal of Rs 20 lakh on Wednesday to the kin of Kanniyakumari fisherfolk feared dead and those confirmed dead due to Cyclonic storm Ockhi.

The state had enumerated as many as 193 victims’ kin as eligible to obtain this solatium and the next of kin would receive Rs 10 lakh in the first instalment. The rest would be held in joint-account with next of kin and the Assistant Director of Fisheries, for six months and would be released to the kin with interest after the District Collector confirms the finality of the missing persons.
On Tuesday, the CM also exchanged MoUs with Austrade (Australian Trade and Investment Commission) and VicRoads (Roads Corporation of Victoria, Australia). The first signed by the Fisheries department pertains to knowledge sharing on improving marine resources and marketing, and the second was executed with Highways department with the aim to improve Highway Planning, Administration and Road Safety besides employing best Transport practices, among others.
The CM also launched a multipurpose vet centre in Saidapet, Aavin parlours, drinking water schemes, additional buildings for various departments besides issuing appointment orders for candidates selected on compassionate grounds.
