Two newly-wed women end life, kin suspect foul play
Relatives of two married women, who ended their lives in separate incidents in the past few days, have demanded a police investigation, alleging foul play by in-laws. While the marriage of one lasted for just three months, the other deceased was married eight months ago.

Ramya (24) married Ajith Kumar, a resident of Latheri near Gudiyattam three months ago against their parents’ wishes. However, Ramya’s parents were informed on Monday that she had committed suicide at her inlaw’s residence.
Following this, her parents complained to Panamadangi police stating that their daughter would not kill herself. Ramya’s relatives laid seige to the Latheri police station on Tuesday demanding action against those responsible for her death. Promising action, the police pacified Ramya’s kin and sent them away.
In another incident, Vidya (22) of Edayuansathu Kuppam in Vellore married Tamilselvan, eight months ago. As they were from different communities, the couple developed differences of opinion resulting in frequent fights. A few days ago, Vidya immolated herself.
On hearing her screams, her husband tried to save Vidya. In the process, Tamilselvan also received burns. Both were admitted to the Vellore government medical college hospital, from where Vidya was shifted to KMC hospital in Chennai. However, she succumbed on Tuesday. An inquiry has been ordered following a complaint registered by Vidya’s parents at the Bagayam police station.
