He was admitted to the ICU at the hospital on March 16 with severe chest infection, the hospital said in the statement. He remains on ventilator support.

Natarajan had undergone a liver and kidney transplant at the hospital in October 2017 after it was found that he had a worsening liver and kidney failure and was discharged after being on the ventilator.

Sasikala, who is serving a four-year imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case in the central prison in Bengaluru, had visited her husband after obtaining a five-day emergency parole last year.

“As per the law, Sasikala cannot come to meet the same person during her parole within a period of six months. However, advocates will, on Monday, apply for her parole,” said V Pugazhendhi, RK Nagar MLA TTV Dinakaran’s supporter, on Sunday, assuring that Sasikala would come to meet her husband Natarajan at the hospital.
