Justice AD Jagadish Chandira before whom the bail petitions of Ravanan, Umapathy, Prabhakaran, and Rajesh came up granted bail after directing them to stay in Salem and sign before the Salem Police until further orders.
A day after BJP leader H Raja posted a message on Facebook threatening to bring down statues of social reformer Periyar EV Ramasamy, a statue of Periyar was damaged in Vellore.
In retaliation, the four DVK volunteers cut the sacred threads of the eight persons. Following this, the police registered a case on March 7 and arrested the accused.
