Speaking at a function in the city to mark his one year in government, Palaniswami said he had signed 5,746 files as Chief Minister and given life to several schemes. The Chief Minister said he was born into a family of farmers and grown step by step to become the Chief Minister. His government had celebrated the centenary function of former chief minister MGR in 30 districts.

The state faced severe drought last year and the government had provided Rs 2,247 crore in compensation to the affected farmers. He listed the various schemes his government had implemented for the welfare of farmers, workers and fishermen and the schemes for the development of education and health. He also said that those who had left the party would return to the parent organisation.

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam launched a scathing attack on actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Indirectly referring to Rajinikanth’s remarks on the system, Panneerselvam said those who did not know about people’s sufferings are speaking about system. On Kamal expressing his views on various subjects, OPS said some people had become ‘Karuthu Kandaswamy,’ a Tamil term used to describe those who are coming out with opinions on every subject. “Those who do not know about politics are speaking about politics”, he added.

He said that the AIADMK is providing shock after shock to its opponents and shattering their hopes. Panneerselvam said they would fight those who wanted to defeat them and betrayers who are working against the party. The predictions of those who said this government would not last had gone false, he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated an exhibition to showcase the achievements of his government.
