Former minister Senthil Balaji alleged that the ruling party is not allowing other parties to nominate their candidates in the co-operative elections. Candidates of other parties, who tried to file nomination papers in Karur district, were attacked by the ruling party functionaries with the support of police, he said.

CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan too came out with similar allegations and urged the Co-operative Society Election Commissioner and the state government to hold the polls democratically.

Allowing only the ruling party to contest the elections is an undemocratic act, he said.
