Upset over CMB delay, activist sends rat poison to Pollachi MP
Miffed over the collective failure of TN Members of Parliament (MPs) to exert pressure on the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), a social activist on Friday sent rat poison to the Parliamentarian asking him to commit suicide.

Expressing his anguish over the delay in CMB formation, Mani alias ‘Periyar’ Mani of Kinathukadavu couriered the poison to Pollachi constituency MP C Mahendran at his New Delhi address. “I am sending the poison to remind my constituency MP of the promise made by AIADMK MP Navaneethakrishnan recently that they wouldn’t hesitate to commit suicide if the Centre fails to constitute the CMB within the time stipulated by the court,” he told the media.
In a letter sent along with the poison from Pollachi, the activist urged the 37 AIADMK MPs to resolve the Cauvery row by committing suicide.
“Despite 37 AIADMK MPs from Tamil Nadu, they failed to pressure the Centre to implement the Supreme Court order on forming the CMB. Their protests to stall Parliament were just an act of drama as they weren’t genuinely interested in fighting for the cause of TN people,” charged Mani. “I also welcome MP Navaneethakrishnan’s suicide remark and hence I wanted to help them by sending the rat poison,” he added in the letter. Navaneethakrishnan had on Thursday threatened to commit suicide, if the Centre fails to form CMB within the deadline fixed by the apex court.
Reacting to the rat poison parcel sent to him, Mahendran dismissed it as a publicity stunt by Mani. “His act is condemnable, but I am not going to file a police complaint as I am here to serve the public,” said the MP.
