Taking a dig at ruling party MP Muthukaruppan, who backtracked on his resignation offer within hours of tendering it over the formation of the Cauvery Management Board, Tamilisai said, “The MPs now don’t know even to resign properly, they announce their quitting, but then backtrack on their decision.”
Speaking to the media at the Coimbatore international airport, the BJP leader said the protesting parties don’t have heart to even let a single MP resign for establishing the rights of the state in the Cauvery issue. “Why couldn’t all MPs quit expressing their feelings,” she wondered, adding that a solution to the Cauvery issue can be found only through the legal route.
The DMK and other opposition parties have been seeking the resignation of all AIADMK MPs to pressure the Centre to form the CMB.
Terming the protests by the opposition parties and the AIADMK over the Cauvery issue as eyewash, the BJP leader said the Centre has been taking all legal steps to get Tamil Nadu its due share of water.
Blaming the ruling Congress in Karnataka for the Cauvery imbroglio, Tamilisai condemned the statements by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah against the formation of the CMB. “The BJP is firm on fighting to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu,” she added.
“When people of Tamil Nadu were desperate for a speedy solution to the Cauvery issue, Siddaramaiah sanctioned Rs 6,000 crore to build Mekedatu dam. Why were TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasar and DMK working president MK Stalin silent on the issue then,” she questioned.
