Around 50 residents of Ayyappan Kovil Street hoisted the black flags to show solidarity to political parties, farmers associations and public protesting for CMB issue.

Supporting the agitation, MDMK general secretary Vaiko charged the Centre with functioning in support of Karnataka. The Union government had given consent to construction of dams by Karnataka government at Mekedatu and Rasimanal. The state would be deprived of Cauvery water if the dams were constructed, he said, in a statement here.

During the Prime Minister’s visit, the state should be dotted with black flags and black flags should be hoisted in all the houses and people should gather along his route to show black flags. Modi should realise the entire state had united to protect its rights on Cauvery for thousands of years, appealed DMK working president MK Stalin.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said that the Prime Minister is deceiving the state by not implementing Supreme Court order on the Cauvery dispute within the time frame stipulated by the Supreme Court. He asked the cadre to gather along the route of Modi and show black flags to him in a peaceful way.

Joining the appeal to the people to stage the black flag demonstrations, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan said the state should intensify the protests to protect its rights over Cauvery. The state government had not opposed the Centre in a firm manner and even in the Supreme Court, it had softly pleaded for water without criticising the Centre, he said.
