In a statement, state secretary of CPI, R Mutharasan, said, “Agitations are held by political parties and outfits for the cause of Cauvery issue in a peaceful manner. Under these circumstances, the government should not handle the protesters by force. It should instruct the police to handle the situation with caution.”

The CPI condemns the incident in which the police resorted to lathi-charge on protesters who were agitating against the IPL match, he said, demanding their release. The CPM too expressed concern over the incident. “The protests are staged to reestablish our rights. Any protest should not be handled by force,” it said a statement.
