Durairaj (45), a resident of Keezha Vadampokki Street in Swamimalai on Sunday evening went to the State Bank of India ATM on Swamimalai Sannadhi Street to withdraw cash. He found a bundle of Rs 500 notes lying near the entrance. Then he took the bundle and searched for the person who missed it. Even after a wait of half-an-hour, no one came searching or claiming for the notes.

Subsequently on Monday, Durairaj went to the bank and handed over the cash to the branch manager who inspected the bundle and said that the notes do not belong to his bank. Following this, Durairaj along with Govi Kalyankumar, former vice president of Swamimalai town panchayat, went to the Swamimalai police station and handed over the entire money.

Durairaj later told reporters that the bank officials informed him that the CCTV camera at the ATM kiosk did not work and hence finding the owner of the cash immediately would be difficult.
