University biased, says Dalit scholar
A Dalit PhD scholar alleged discrimination by the Bharathidasan University here, saying that the management has been intentionally delaying his degree for the past two years, on Friday.

Speaking to the media, Pavendan, the 37-year-old research scholar, said he submitted his thesis in 2016 and was desperately waiting for the degree, but in vain. He said, “I was a full-time scholar but the university wrongly considered me as a part-time scholar and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on me.”
He added that his guide C Sebastian Rajasekaran of Bishop Heber College here also informed about it to the office of the registrar of the university. The incident came to light after Bahujan Samaj Party members charged that the university always kept its doors closed when it comes to underprivileged communities.
