MDMK general secretary Vaiko appealed to all section of people to join the human chain protests and send a message to the Union government that Tamils are united on the issue.
He recalled that all the previous protests on the issue had drawn people’s support and the human chain agitations must also be successful. “The black flag protest to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 12 was unprecedented and sent a clear message to New Delhi. Till the Cauvery rights are won, the protests in Tamil Nadu would continue,” he said. Similar appeals are expected from other opposition leaders on the eve of agitations.
The Opposition is planning to intensify the agitations a week ahead of the Supreme Court hearing. The Centre had been asked to submit its scheme to implement the court verdict on Cauvery dispute to the court on May 3. The opposition parties which convened a meeting on April 16 had decided to hold a human chain protest on April 23.
TNCC chief appeals
Tamil Nadu Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar has appealed to his party functionaries and cadre to come out in large numbers during the human chain protest to be held by the DMK-led Opposition on April 23.
Referring to the clarification petition filed by the BJP-led Centre in the Supreme Court in the Cauvery case, Thirunavukkarasar, in a statement released here, said the Modi regime has sought more time in the case for political gains and betrayed Tamil Nadu by not constituting the CMB. Recalling the overwhelming strike rate of #gobackmodi# during the Prime Minister’s visit to the city on April 12, the TNCC chief said the BJP has drawn the ire of the state people never like before. Recalling various issues like NEET and several Central projects opposed by the people here, Thirunavukkarasar urged his party men to come out in large numbers to make the human chain agitation a grand success. Congress legislature party leader KR Ramaswamy would lead the agitation at Sivagangai on Monday, the release added.
