Vijayakanth, Premalatha arrested for rallying to Raj Bhavan in protest
DMDK leader Vijayakanth along with his wife and cadre were arrested when they tried to proceed towards Raj Bhavan demanding the recall of Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Anna University Vice Chancellor MK Surappa.

Speaking to reporters, the actor lashed out at the BJP and said the saffron party had done nothing good for Tamil Nadu during the last four years in power. It had refused to form the Cauvery Management Board and working against the interests of the state, he charged. He also said, “I will speak to you very well in August after a throat surgery.”
Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha, who addressed the gathering, asked, “Can a Tamilian be appointed as Vice-Chancellor in any of the Universities in Karnataka? If you appoint a Tamilian for the same post in Karnataka, we will accept Surappa.”
She also lashed out at the Governor and said the setting up of a panel by the Governor himself to go into the Nirmala Devi case could not be accepted. Since, the Governor is also within the ambit of suspicion the Madras High Court itself could set up a committee of IAS and IPS officials to identify the affluent and powerful persons behind the network.
Only when the truth in the case comes out, people in the state could send their girls to schools and colleges without fear, he said.The Governor’s explanation that he had great grandsons and daughters raises more suspicions and questions, she said and condemned the behaviour of the Governor with a woman journalist.
