According to police, Somasundaram (37), of Chinnaramanur in Krishnagiri district, was married to Kasturi (36), also of the same area. The couple had four children. Meanwhile, Kasturi developed a relationship with Govindaraj (36), who was working in a sweet shop, near her house.

Somasundaram, who came to know about their affair, admonished his wife and the couple had frequent quarrels over the issue. Irked by this, Kasturi and Govindaraj hatched a plan to kill Somasundaram.

As part of the plan, Kasturi took Somasundaram to a temple at Chithathoor near Gudiyattam on December 3, 2013. After darshan, Somasundaram reportedly consumed liquor at a lonely spot near the temple. Making use of his condition, Govindaraj and Kasturi strangulated Somasundaram with a cell phone charger wire to death. They were later arrested for the crime by the Gudiyattam taluk police and remanded to custody. When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, sessions court judge Vetriselvi convicted both Kasturi and her paramour and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
