Recalling the submission of Attorney General in the Supreme Court that they could not table the draft owing to inability to get the approval of the Prime Minister, who is held up in the election campaign in Karnataka, Stalin said the lame excuse that they could not get the PM’s consent even via mail in the digital age was nothing but sheer betrayal.

Suggesting that the apex court should have condemned the Centre and ordered the tabling of the draft before Thursday evening, the DMK working president said that justice would be slowly denied to Tamil Nadu if the court continues to extend the deadline despite reprimanding the Centre on strong terms. Tamil Nadu’s last hope is the May 8 hearing when the SC could pass orders to uphold the rights and protect the welfare of the state, Stalin said, accusing the ruling AIADMK of remaining indifferent despite the AG admitting in the court that a ‘vengeful’ BJP regime was doing it for electoral gains in Karnataka.

Questioning the functioning of the state law department and its counsels in respect of the contempt petition it had moved against the Centre, Stalin, who is also the Leader of the Opposition, said “The Modi regime has insulted the people of the state by denying appointment to the Chief Minister to discuss the Cauvery issue.” Stalin also urged Karnataka government to release four tmcft to Tamil Nadu, as was ordered by the SC.

Joining the issue with Stalin, TNCC president Su Thirunavukkarasar also slammed the Modi regime for seeking more time in the Cauvery case. The TNCC chief charged the BJP with delaying the constitution of the CMB to advance its electoral interests in Karnataka.
