Nirmala Devi, who was working at Devanga Arts College in Aruppukottai, was arrested after a audio-clip of her luring college students to extend favours for higher officials of Madurai Kamaraj University got leaked in social media.

Initially she was taken under CB-CID custody and then sent to judicial custody. The Governor-appointed Santhanam Committee had already questioned her in the case.

In the meantime, the custody of Nirmala Devi was extended till May 23.

However, on Thursday, a bail petition was filed at the sessions court in Srivilliputhur.

In the petition, it was stated that she spoke to students without any malafide intention but her speech was fabricated and a case was filed against her.

The petition also stated that Devi did not lure any student for wrongful acts and hence prayed the court to grant her bail in the case.

The case is set to be heard on Friday.
