Rajkapoor, Deputy Secretary of Madurai Ikkiya Jamath, said that every year the State government distributes rice at a subsidised rate of Re 1 per kg to the mosques to prepare porridge during Ramzan. This year too, the government has ordered on May 10 the distribution of rice at subsidised prices ahead of the festival.

After the government passes the order, it must be collected from the District Supply Officer (DSO) and submit to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation after which they would pay the amount through demand draft and get the rice required for the mosques.

However, even though the order was passed on May 10 this year, they did not get the order from the DSO yet.

The officials said that orders have been issued on Monday to distribute 2,570 tonnes of rice at subsidised price to the mosques.
