With the education board deciding not to release the merit list and names of the toppers, in order to discourage unhealthy competition, it seems that a major weight has been lifted off students and as well as the parents.
Prithivee Rajesh, who is a well-known singer in Chennai, spent the first half of the year performing with her band and recording songs whenever she found time – while ensuring her studies didn’t take a beating. “It was only during the last few months when I actively focused on preparing for the exams. But I also used to take a two-hour TV break occasionally to make sure I didn’t stress out too much,” said the teenager from St Michael’s Academy who ended up with a 96.9 per cent in her exams.
Similarly, Ahmed Uzair from SBOA Coimbatore is ecstatic after securing a 96.6 per cent percentage mark in his board exams. The youngster, who wishes to become an IAS officer, said he plans to prepare for his UPSC exams while completing a EEE degree. “I was able to perform well, only because my father let me study without any pressure and gave me the liberty to work at my own pace. My friends and I are happy with the results.”
Results sent via SMS 10 mins earlier
Tamil Nadu government’s move to send results through SMS was hailed by parents and teachers. A senior Education Department official said SMSes were sent to all the students who had registered their parents’ mobile number. They received the result details about 10 minutes before the results were announced. “After ascertaining the success, results through SMS will also be initiated for Class 10 and 12 board exam results,” added the official.
