Rahul defers DCC presidents’ meet
The high drama in Karnataka politics has left many a Congressman in Tamil Nadu disappointed. At least a dozen district presidents were worried, not because they were unhappy with their chief minister candidate Siddaramiah not capturing Vidhan Sabha, but their inability to meet party national president Rahul Gandhi in person.

Over 10 district Congress committee presidents from the state who have been camping in the national capital since Thursday for an interaction with Rahul Gandhi had to return disappointed after the party high command deferred the meeting indefinitely owing to the chaos in Karnataka. Nearly 350 party districts presidents were invited from across the country for a two-day consultation beginning Saturday, May 19. From Tamil Nadu, 36 presidents were invited and ten of them were in New Delhi since Thursday, hoping to brief Rahul about their poll preparations and take instructions from the boss.
“The high command has deferred the meeting indefinitely. The date of future meeting will be notified by the AICC soon. Rahul wanted to elicit views from the DCC presidents directly and hence the meeting. He will unveil some of his election plans and coordinating booth level functionaries. The meeting will happen soon. He will meet the first set of DCC presidents (36) in the first meeting and the other half in the second meeting,” said the state Congress president.
Though leaders claimed that preparations for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and strengthening of the party would be high on Rahul’s agenda, it is an easy guess that the Congress president would consult the district party presidents on the eternal feud in the state party unit. The district bosses would also have some answering to do on the recent bickering at the top most level of TNCC with some senior leaders openly rebelling against incumbent Thirunavukkarasar (AICC spokesperson Khusbhu Sundar had gone public last week, suggesting that the incumbent TNCC chief would be replaced).
Irrespective of the change of guard at TNCC helm, the Congress national high command has been contemplating more cordial relationship with potential ally DMK, which has been showing belligerence of late.
