Prepare early and stay stress-free, say toppers

For students across Tamil Nadu rejoicing over their Class 10 results on Wednesday, the happy affair comes after a year of meticulous preparation and nervous anticipation. But even as the celebrations continue, most toppers are mindful of what’s next — choosing their next step carefully, as they plan their eventual careers.

J Sandeep from Sri Sankara Mat Hr Sec School is ecstatic after he scored 485 marks which gives him a 97 per cent score. He said he is set on his goal of becoming a Chartered Accountant one day and has chosen the Commerce group.

“I studied for five hours every day and did not place any undue pressure upon myself. My parents were very supportive and made sure not to push me too hard. While writing the exams, I was a little concerned as the questions weren’t that easy. But the exam correction was quite lenient in fact, as we all scored higher than what we expected,” he said.

Students from underprivileged backgrounds also did well. A Devaraj from the Mahakavi Bharathiyar School under the Sevalaya Foundation scored a resounding 95 per cent. The youngster, whose father is a driver with low income, has chosen the bio-math group and wants to become an engineer.

“I actually aimed for at least 10 marks more, but I’m quite happy to be my school’s topper. I ensured I was not too late to start the preparations and kept it consistent. We also had extra tests and special classes on Sundays to help us and I was happy to oblige,” he said.

Sevalaya, that helps students from low-income backgrounds realise their potential to the fullest, also offers a safe space for the kids outside their families. “Though my family offered me full support, it was the school and my teachers who really made me reach the peak,” Devaraj added.
