Finals of boat race in Kodai today
A rowing competition was flagged off on Saturday as part of the Kodai Summer Festival. The ten-day long summer festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Edappadi K.Palaniswami in Kodaikanal on May 19.

Along with the flower show, the major attraction of the festival, various other events are scheduled to be organised, the rowing competition being a key event. The competition attracts a large number of tourists from across the state. The competition is conducted over two days with the selection process scheduled on the first day the selection process takes place. On the second day, usually Sundays, the finals are held among the selected participants.
On Saturday, the rowing competition commenced at the famous star lake, a man-made water body of Kodaikanal.
The event was conducted under 10 different categories based on the age and the number of people rowing a boat. A separate junior category was young enthusiasts to take part in the contest while the adults were categorised according to the number of participants and the size of their boats. The winners of the selection round would be participating in the finals to be conducted on Sunday. The event is conducted by Kodaikanal Boat and Rowing Club in association with the Kodaikanal Municipality.
However, on Sunday, another key event, the ‘Duck Race’, would also be conducted in the lake in which the participants are required to catch ducks that are allowed to swim in the lake.
