TNPSC upper age limit relaxed for top posts
The state provided good news to its aspiring officer category employees by relaxing the age limit for all categories by two years. This would benefit those appearing for top posts of the state cadre of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) in group 1, 1-A and 1-B categories and almost on a par with the UPSC norms.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who made this announcement, said the change follows requests from various quarters and the upper age limit for SC, ST, MBC, BC and DNC categories has been increased from 35 to 37 years and from 30 to 32 years for other categories. The TNPSC falls under Personnel and Administrative Reforms.

A separate Cyber Security Architecture for Tamil Nadu would be executed by ELCOT at a cost of Rs 21 crore and TACTV would begin offering HD services through HD set-top box services, the CM said.
On Higher Education, he said as many as 41 constituent colleges of state-run Universities would be converted into Government Arts and Science colleges, which would involve a recurring expenditure of Rs 152.20 crores per annum. Starting 264 new courses from the ensuing academic year in addition to existing 1,232 courses started between 2011-12 to 2017-18, which would involve a recurring expenditure of Rs 68.46 crore, spending of Rs 72.75 crore towards creating infrastructural facilities like classrooms, buildings and 50 laboratories for this purpose and spending Rs 37 crore towards construction of 50 new hostels (three in each room) to accommodate 150 students in six Government Engineering Colleges at Bargur, Coimbatore, Karaikudi, Tirunelveli, Salem and Vellore, were also announced by the CM.
For School Education Department, the Chief Minister said 32 Model schools as one each for the district would be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh per school.
In addition, as many as 2,448 High and Higher Secondary Schools in the state would be provided with quality and safe drinking water facilities at a cost of Rs 48.96 crore.
While setting up 2,283 smart classes with the assistance of Information Technology at a cost of Rs 42.92 crore, the state would impart special training to adapt to the new curriculum introduced this year, along with hands on training on using the National Teacher Portal and uploading new modules at a cost of Rs 35.14 crore.
Palaniswami also announced that all the government-aided schools in the state would be provided with smart cards for students at a cost of Rs 11.25 crore. The cards would have various features such as Aadhaar linking facility.
