Bedi in a release said a joint inspection by Puducherry Planning Authority and civic officials, carried out after her visit, found that the complaints in the representation given to her were prima facie true and the showroom was sealed.

In the representation, the Residents Welfare Association of the locality where the shop is situated has complained among others that there was hindrance to flow of traffic on the main road as there was no parking facility provided.

Official sources said the textile showroom started functioning recently without obtaining trade license and occupancy certificate under the provisions of Puducherry Municipalities and Village Panchayats Act 1973.

Bedi, on her weekly field visits, paid a surprise visit to the shop and later asked officials to inspect it to ascertain whether there were violations.
