Please don’t call me ‘Jallikattu Nayagan’: OPS

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, on a lighter note, asked his cabinet colleagues and party legislators not to call him Jallikattu Nayagan (hero of bull taming sport), as it would embarrass him if he attended an event as a spectator and was asked to tame the animal.

When the ministers began praising both CM and his Deputy for the achievements of the government in Cauvery, they referred to OPS as Jallikattu Nayagan to signify his efforts in getting legal nod for the conduct of the sport.

OPS interjected, “I have the habit of witnessing several Jallikattu events, while doing so, I will be in a fix if they (organisers) say that the jallikattu hero has come and ask me to tame a bull,” he said as the House both Opposition and Treasury Benches broke into laughter.

Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu, Food Minister R Kamaraj and Handlooms Minister OS Manian are those who prompted OPS to react.

They also lauded the efforts of the government in getting the Cauvery Management Authority and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee in place.

After this, Deputy LoP Duraimurugan reeled out a long list of measures taken by DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and said he should be provided due credit.

As it went on the Assembly record, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami trotted out a further long list recalling his party-led government’s achievements.
