Gang forces boy to drink liquor, kin thrashed

A 37-year-old man and his brother-in-law were attacked by a gang when they questioned the gang members for forcing the man’s son to consume liquor, in Kodaikanal on Saturday. Following the incident, the two persons were admitted in the Theni GH on Sunday.

Dhinakaran (15), son of Subramani, of Poombarai village in Kodaikanal, studied till Class IX and dropped out of  school. After this, he was roaming with a local gang and  was involved in selling minor forest produce and it got him some money. 

Against this backdrop, when the gang was consuming liquor, they forced Dhinakaran also to drink, though he refused and left the spot. However, the gang chased him and tried to force feed him liquor. Following this, Dhinakaran informed his father and his uncle Dhandayudhapani (30). They immediately accosted the gang members and questioned them for forcing Dhinakaran to have liquor. 

However, the gang turned aggressive and started attacking them. When the duo resisted, the gang members  assaulted them with beer bottles in their head and hands. In the incident, both Subramani and Dhandayudhapani suffered injuries in their head and hands and were rushed to the Kodaikanal GH for treatment. After first aid, they were sent to the Theni GH. Kodaikanal police are investigating the incident and have booked a case against Muthupandi  (22) and Suresh (25) of Poombarai. They are absconding.
