A brick-laden lorry from Dharmapuri was proceeding to Pudukkottai. Around 5.30 am, when the vehicle was nearing the Keeranur bypass at Kulathur, a lorry loaded with rice, which was proceeding from Karaikudi to Tiruchy, attempted to overtake a tipper lorry. The rice-laden lorry driver Sadick (45) of Puduvayal suddenly saw the brick-laden lorry on the opposite lane and attempted to avoid it.

However, the rice lorry hit the tipper due to which the tipper toppled. Sadick and cleaner Kalaiarasan (32) of Karaikudi and brick truck driver Krishnan (30) of Dharmapuri were crushed to death in the incident. The tipper driver escaped without injury.

On information, the Keeranur police along with Fire and Rescue personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Pudukkottai GH. Traffic was disrupted on the Keeranur main road for more than four hours due to the accident.
