Neenu Ittyerah had planned to inspect the Rameswaram railway station and so had started from Madurai in her official vehicle, in the morning. The car was driven by a person called Madhubalan and Madurai Railway Divisional Engineer, Baskar, followed Neenu in his official car.

When her car was traveling on the Madurai-Rameswaram National Highway, a bike came in the opposite direction. Police sources said the biker may have been drunk and was not riding the vehicle steadily.

When the car driver tried to avoid the bike, it continued to veer towards the car and so the driver had to make a sudden turn due to which the car skidded, slid down a pit along the road and overturned.

Immediately, Baskar his driver rushed to rescue the DRM, but to their surprise she did not suffer even a cut injury. What was more surprising was that she got into the car of Baskar and proceeded to Rameswaram for the inspection of the railway station, said sources.

She was lucky to have not suffered any serious injuries in the accident, they added.

Neenu Ittyerah, known as a strict official, has always surprised fellow officials with her attitude towards work and had set an example to her juniors. After the inspection at Rameswaram, when media representatives enquired about the accident, she said she was fine and so she was able to carry out the inspection.
