Speaking to the media, Mohanan said that usually there used to be over 60,000 enrolment for IGNOU programmes each year but the strength has declined and only around 6,000 students are going for IGNOU offered programmes in the state. “However, the numbers would increase in the upcoming days as there are more courses offered by IGNOU when compared to distant education centres of state universities,” he said.

While the Tiruchy students are keen on joining in the management related programmes, there are demands for commerce and psychology in the other districts, he said and added that for the past 25 years, since the inception of IGNOU, the organisation has been fuctioning with zero malpractices during examinations.
