Police intercepted the two lorries at the Nadukani check post in Tamil Nadu-Kerala border and inquiries revealed that they were transporting medical waste. By then, members of Naam Tamilar Katchi gathered at the spot and alleged that the lorries would dump the waste in the Gudalur area.

Even as they resorted to a protest against allowing the lorries to go through Tamil Nadu, the local villagers too joined the party men. The lorry drivers claimed that they were planning to go to Karnataka after a night halt in Gudalur. After two hours of protest, the Gudalur police sent the two lorries back to Kerala.

The Naam Tamilar Katchi members alleged that medical waste from Kerala would be dumped in places like Devala Neermattam and Kilnadukani areas near the inter-state border.

“Though we sought to penalise the offenders, the police merely sent back both the lorries. If the police fail to enhance vigil against lorries transporting medical waste from Kerala, our party will soon resort to protests,” said Hari Krishnan, a party member.
